[ Let’s get Trashed! ]

by Princess Hotcakes on February 6, 2011

I wrote this title yesterday morning as I had intended to post sooner. Sitting here this evening it takes on a whole new meaning… More on that in a little bit.

My day was pretty bland until…

I met up with a CL seller to purchase this lamp! An Ikea Kulla lamp!

KULLA Pendant lamp white Diameter: 20 " Min. height: 28 " Max. height: 79 " Diameter: 50 cm Min. height: 70 cm Max. height: 2 m

Normally this lamp retails for $69.99 and I totally scored it for $30.00!!! In CL heaven!!

Then…I picked my sis up from work and we went to the Doug Fir Lounge for dinner and drinks!

We shared a  3-course dinner…

Spinach and artichoke dip  * Butternut squash Ravioli * Bread Pudding (my all-time favorite dessert in the world!)

At the end of dinner we drove a few blocks to Boothster who was hosting this year’s Junk to Funk Trashion Gallery Showcase!

The Mission of Junk to Funk is to…

inspire individuals towards responsible consumerism, creative re-use and conscientious disposal by providing unique fashion based entertainment and educational programs.

Junk to Funk inspires us to do things a little differently . . .

Imagine a world in which there was no such thing as trash; that everything that we “threw away” was perceived as a valuable resource, used to create something new or as a nutrient for the earth.

What if needs ruled over wants, purchases were mindful, and we valued doing stuff instead of buying stuff?

Consider the reality that low-impact doesn’t mean sacrifice, but a more satisfying life.

What if the ultimate measure of coolness was how little you bought and how much you creatively reused?

Here’s the *magic* of Junk to Funk! (hold your cursor over the pic to see if I remembered what materials were used…)

Made from tea bagsDSC00739DSC00735DSC00702DSC00700DSC00698DSC00703DSC00705DSC00724DSC00725DSC00713DSC00707DSC00729

My darling Jo joined us at the show! Soo much fun! After standing around for a while we decided to head out and find a place to relax and vist…

Yup, we ended up at a Tiki bar!!! Thatch Tiki Bar to be exact!! That drink is the “Volcano bowl” and is pretty nutz.

I was the driver and have been fighting a cold so I didn’t get the full experience of the Volcano bowl… From what I saw of those who had the volcano bowl (several tables) , it’s a pretty gnarly kick in the pants!! Some people (not I) may have walked out pretty trashed… Open-mouthed smile

I hope you all had an equally awesome Saturday!!

I’m in complete denial that tomorrow is Monday….

*** What do you do to prepare yourself for the work week?? ***

XO, Rochelle

Since my week starts on Tuesdays, I try to do something fun and newish, (whenever possible), on Mondays. This week I went for a bike ride and had a tea date with a friend. Perhaps NEXT Monday I can meet YOU for lunch downtown?
xoxo
